MISO is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the MISO mobile application. By using MISO, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Camera and Image Data
MISO requests access to your device camera and photo library solely to enable the food scanning feature. When you scan your fridge or pantry:
- Images are processed to identify food items and their expiry status.
- Images are not permanently stored on our servers unless you explicitly save a scan.
- We do not use your images to train AI models without your explicit, separate consent.
- Camera access is only activated when you initiate a scan within the App.
1.2 Dietary Goals and Preferences
We collect the dietary goals and preferences you provide during onboarding (e.g., Eat Healthier, Save Money, Reduce Waste, High Protein). This information is used solely to personalise meal recommendations within the App.
1.3 No Account Required
MISO does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or any password. You can use all core features of the App anonymously on your device.
1.4 Usage Data
We automatically collect certain technical data when you use the App, including:
- Device type and operating system
- App version
- Crash logs and performance diagnostics
- Feature usage patterns (e.g., how often scans are performed)
This data is collected in aggregate and is used solely to improve App performance and stability.
1.5 Purchase Information
If you upgrade to MISO Pro, payment transactions are processed entirely by Apple (via the App Store). We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card or payment details. We receive only a confirmation that a purchase has been made.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver and personalise the core food scanning and meal recommendation features
- Process and manage your subscription (MISO Free and MISO Pro)
- Send transactional communications related to your subscription (e.g., purchase confirmation)
- Improve App performance, fix bugs, and develop new features
- Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
3. How We Share Your Information
We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We may share data with trusted third-party vendors (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics) who are contractually required to protect your data and use it only as instructed.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MISO, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will provide notice before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the App’s services or as required by law. Because MISO does not require account creation, most data is stored locally on your device and can be cleared by deleting the App. For any data held on our servers, you may request deletion at any time by contacting us at support@miso.app. Upon request, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

6. Children's Privacy
MISO is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. 7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS)
- Access controls limiting who within our team can access user data
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Third-Party Services
The App may integrate with third-party services (e.g., Apple App Store for payments). These services operate under their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and, where the changes are material, notify you within the App or by email. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
